18th February 2015 – Istanbul, Turkey
Seasons came and left, and what is left of a great view of a little mosque with an enchanting history, is just the snow. There are many wonders to be seen in this intercontinental city, But I guess the script is written. Today, we go a little slow.
The snow started last night. And it has no mind to stop!
I am staying near the little Hagia Sophia for few days, and the morning view from the window was both sad and uplifting at the same time. There was the glorious little Hagia Sophia, also called Aya Sergios, but covered in snow.
Now, don’t be confused between little Hagia Sophia, and THE Hagia Sophia. The Aya Sergios, was actually built earlier than the Hagia Sophia, and was originally a church too. It was a likely contender to be a model for the Hagia Sophia. It became a mosque during the Ottoman period, and has stayed that way every since.
I tried to step outside to take a closer look at the Aya Sergios, but was thwarted by 2feet deep snow. After taking a few steps, my socks turned wet, and I rushed back home at the same speed that I had stepped out.
