Project 365: Day 83 – Surf’s up, but I aint down!

22nd September 2014 – Mamallapuram, India

Tomorrow I take a leap of faith, no puns intended.
So, today was the day for the surfboards and for the wax.
But this idyllic place has made me a recent aficionado
Of finding the time to chill, to have a beer, to just relax.

The life guards on duty today – Mamallapuram, India

I was supposed to surf for a bit today. Woke up and headed to the beach, and checked out the waves. The Mamallapuram beach reminds me of Kuta in Bali, sans the litter. This section of the beach is surprisingly clean and you are not in risk of plastic debris hitting your face while surfing. The waves were very low, but the breaks were consistent and the surfers had very little waiting time.

I saw a couple of shops which rented surf boards, but I first settled down to have a kingfisher, that legendary beer which calls India its home. A couple of swigs, and surfing jumped straight out of my head. I picked up a book instead (Shantaram – no idea how I missed this gem till now) and settled for another kingfisher. Ok, maybe three more.

It might be a good plan actually. I need all the rest I can get before that tortuous ride tomorrow. 350 KMs from Mahabalipuram to Bangalore.
