1st July 2015 – Mamallapuram, India The memories will remain etched for ever Of a year that went by in poetry and pics. But its not the places that will spring to mind. Its only – and always – the people who will stick. I thought this day would never come, but it’s day 365 today!   Its been 35 countries (and Kosovo), spread across 3 different continents. With 21 international flights, 23 international border crossings by land and couchsurfing in 20 countries. Riding a motorbike through 12000 km of the indian subcontinent, including the cold Himalayan roads of Nepal and […]

Project 365: Day 365 – That’s all, ladies and gentlemen!

Vilnius city centre in Lithuania.
21st April 2015 – Vilnius, Lithuania The forecast looks good. Even if today looks bad. I hope, and pray, this is the end indeed. I am not just saying my goodbye to Lithuania, I am saying it to winter too. Sun is what I need.   The day started with me being lazy on the bed, and ended up pretty much the same way. The cold winds have made my stay in Lithuania not as pleasant as I hoped, despite the fact that I had good friends around me. But I checked the forecast today, and everything looks great from tomorrow. For […]

Project 365: Day 294 – Goodbye to winter. Finally! I hope!

Vilnius cathedral in Lithuania
20th April 2015 – Vilnius, Lithuania The sky pouted today, and put itself in  A rather dark and sombre mood, disillusioned. A cathedral looked more beautiful than it already is, And in the midst of turmoil, today’s words are penned.   I was disillusioned today. Much like the weather in Vilnius. The sky hung dark and gloomy over my head. And inside my head. There is a slow realisation that I have only 2 months more. Maybe I am a little glad. Its been a really long 10 months. Travelling continuously is hard, but documenting it everyday turned out to be the damnedest difficult thing […]

Project 365: Day 293 – Turmoil at the Vilnius Cathedral

Trakai Island castle in Vilnius Lithuania 2
19th April 2015 – Vilnius, Lithuania We braved the cold winds, and crossed A narrow bridge. So much for spring time! And ran into a castle on an island, where The red bricks and dark sky, were in a chime.   The morning was still cold. So, I choose to stay inside almost halfway through it. By afternoon, I left with Vaida, Margarita, and another friend towards Trakai, which was 30 KMs from Vilnius. Margarita – with her daredevil skills on a steering – got us there in record time! The Trakai castle is located on an island in Lake Galve in Trakai. Completed […]

Project 365: Day 292 – The Trakai castle of Vilnius

vilnius, lithuania, dancing, travel, photography
18th April 2015 – Vilnius, Lithuania Spring was already a distant dream,  And winter cradled me back into her arms. My 2 left legs came along for a party, Where I had neither the grace nor the charms. I was just feeling joyful a week ago in France and Spain, because I was finally back in warm countries and was able to travel around in my shorts. Well, its still winter in the Baltics. So, screw my life! I braved the winter and went out to old town today with another friend from couchsurfing, who I had hosted in Singapore before, and […]

Project 365: Day 291 – Dancing with the Lithuanians

vilnius abandoned sport complex, lithuania
17th April 2015 – Vilnius, Lithuania From the cash-laden west of Europe, I was Again back to the east, the land of the tall. And in the Jerusalem of Lithuania, I found  A soviet stink, reeking even years after its fall.   I arrived in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania today. The Baltics tour had just begun! I was picked up from the airport from my friend Margarita (And my name is rum!) who I had met before in Singapore, and then travelled together in Laos. The world of couch surfers is really small, as you can see. And you end up […]

This was the first post of an entire year-long series, which I named ‘Project 365′. The idea was simple enough: travel for a full year and document every day of it, in the form of a daily picture and poem. I am still working on a book of this year-long travel, but till then, enjoy all the posts here. You can check out the daily posts in the details below or jump to the final day of the project by clicking here. 1st July 2014 – Singapore From dust we rose and to dust we shall go And dust is […]
