14th February 2015 – Istanbul, Turkey
Love is in the air! But I am breathing none of it today. Either I have a blocked nose, or the city has hidden it deep. I looked around on both sides of two massive continents. No, there is nothing for me. I will find a bus, and silently weep.
I stayed in the Sultanahmet region last night, and found another friend from Singapore Couchsurfing, who was travelling to Istanbul. Might be a good thing, because I didn’t want to be alone for valentine’s day!
Today, we did the lesser known ways to spend V-day, like sightseeing around Istanbul’s European region. And no, I did not enter the Aya Sofya, blue mosque, or the many tourist attractions. I will be leaving to Pamukkale tonight, and makes no sense to buy the tickets as I can buy the 3-day musecart instead when I come back to Istanbul in a couple of days.
So, we walked more around the bosphorus and the golden horn region today, spending more time on the Galata Bridge, from where you could see both Europe and Asia. And gawking at the multitude of people who set up their reels and started fishing on the bridge.
And in the evening, I took a long 12-hour bus to Pamukkale. What a way to spend valentine’s day!
